Flowers from a mountain

You can grow flowers anywhere, on a balcony, in a yard, a small garden or even on an exposed mountainside.. This particular mountain is part of a world heritage site and I wouldn’t want to live or work anywhere else!

Sounds idyllic? Well yes it is but for one quite big problem for a flower farmer… There is no soil! Two inches down there is stone, mostly slate, some bits of granite. We are in a slate quarrying area. Our heritage is that we roofed the world. But we still have no soil on my side of the mountain. Follow these ramblings to see how its possible to build a flower farm where once sheep grazed and quarrymen worked long hours.
